Mission

Building bridges to opportunity through literacy and technology at Instituto Fermín Mayorga.

At Friends of IFM, we believe that a student’s potential should not be limited by their geography. In the rural community of El Corpus, students are bright, driven, and ready to learn, but they often lack the physical and digital infrastructure to connect with the wider world.

“Building Bridges to Opportunity” means:

Providing the Tools for Success: A bridge is only useful if you can cross it. By providing hardware, software, and furniture, we are giving them the “vehicle” (technology) and the “destination” (literacy and skills) to succeed in higher education and the workforce.

Closing the Digital Divide: For many students at Instituto Fermín Mayorga, the “Virtual Library” will be their first consistent access to high-speed internet and modern hardware. We are bridging the gap between rural Honduras and the global digital economy.

Connecting Generations: We are building on the “Bridge of Friendship” started by Jeff Boyer in the 1960s. By continuing this work, we ensure that a legacy of local connection evolves into a future of global opportunity.

Removing Physical Barriers: By knocking down walls to expand the library, we are creating a physical space where students can transition from the traditional classroom to self-directed research and discovery.

Our long-term goal is to raise funds to expand the library and equip it with technology, empowering students with the tools they need to succeed. We are a small non-profit board dedicated to building on the existing foundation of friendship and providing the students of Instituto Fermín Mayorga with the resources they deserve. We are working hard to develop engaging fundraisers to make this dream a reality.
