WE DID IT! Breaking ground in 2026

Dear Friends of IFM,

As 2025 comes to a close, we are overflowing with gratitude. Thanks to your generosity and a few last-minute milestones, we have some big news to share.

We Reached Our $10,000 Goal!  We are happy to announce that we successfully reached our $5,000 fundraising goal for the matching challenge! This was made possible by several sizable donations, including generous contributions from business owners here in the US who are originally from Honduras. Because we met the goal, the gift was fully matched, and the Friends of IFM now has $10,000 in cash on hand.

While we were working here, the community in Honduras has been working in El Corpus! IFM students, parents, and community members have been soliciting donations, taking collection boxes to local events, and asking neighbors to contribute their spare change. This project is truly a partnership across borders.

Because of these combined efforts, we officially have enough funds (just barely!) to break ground on the library expansion project in early 2026. This is a big step forward in our mission to provide a modern learning space and technology hub for the students of Instituto Fermín Mayorga.

While we are celebrating this milestone, our work is not yet finished. The $10,000 currently on hand will cover the initial construction, but it leaves us with very little cushion for cost overruns. Furthermore, the “shell” of the building is just the beginning. We still need to raise funds for:

  • Additional computers and hardware
  • Software and digital resources
  • Furniture (desks, shelving, and seating)
  • Ongoing maintenance
The first computers were delivered to the school in 2025! Please consider helping us purchase more.

To keep the momentum going, we are already planning our next Plant Sale for April 2026. Our last spring fundraiser was fun and successful, and we can’t wait to see you all there to help us raise more money and move into the next phase of this project.

We are excited about the promise of things to come and will keep you updated on every new development as the dust starts to fly in El Corpus.
