Following up on our July update, we wanted to share some great progress on our campaign to expand the library and build a technology hub at the Instituto Fermín Mayorga (IFM) in El Corpus, Honduras.
The generosity following our announcement of the $5,000 matching challenge has been inspiring! Thanks to your contributions, the Friends of IFM have already raised $793.30 – that’s about 16% of our $5,000 matching goal. This means we’re well on our way to doubling that amount and getting closer to our initial $10,000 milestone to break ground on the library expansion. Every dollar you donate continues to be matched, doubling your impact.
Your previous support, especially during our spring plant sales which raised $1,000, laid the groundwork for this phase. We’ve now raised approximately $6,093.30 towards our total $20,000 goal.
Students in Honduras Taking the Lead!
We’re also incredibly excited to share the inspiring initiative of the students, teachers, and parents at IFM themselves. The newly formed Friends of the Library club has kicked off a fundraising marathon in El Corpus.
We received the photo above from the school librarian showing the collection boxes they decorated for the fundraising efforts. The entire school community is participating, visiting different businesses and neighborhoods in El Corpus with collection boxes, inviting everyone to contribute to their new library and technology hub. This Friends of the Library initiative showcases the commitment and ownership the students and the wider community feel towards this project.
Progress on the Ground Continues:
As we mentioned in our last update, the first two of the three new Dell all-in-one computers have arrived safely at the existing library and are already being used by the students. The third is on its way and will be there soon.
The IFM staff are also anticipating the expanded space and the resources it will provide, not only for their weekday students but also for the adult learners who attend classes on the weekends. This project truly promises to benefit the entire educational community in El Corpus.
